Welcome to Arthur –

The of Illinois Amish Country

A most cordial welcome is extended to our visitors from near and far who come to experience the unique mixture of small-town culture and an Old-Order Amish community that is known as Arthur.

Since 1873, Arthur has been the center of Amish life in Illinois, and its surrounding area is home and workplace to over 4000 Amish today. Shops of skilled craftsmen, cottage industries, and farms worked by real horse power are scattered throughout the countryside. The Visitors Center in downtown Arthur should be one of your first stops for help in pinpointing these special places of interest.

The town of Arthur is also filled with distinctive shops and businesses that believe in a high level of friendliness and personal service. Through the support of these businesses and the community many special events are held during the year that attract thousands of visitors. Arthur and its surrounding area is your source for some of the best down-home, grass-roots entertainment and experiences in the Midwest.

You are not alone if you choose Arthur as a travel destination. 200,000 visitors annually from all 50 states and over 50 countries have discovered the friendly atmosphere of our community whose slogan is . . . "You’re a stranger only once."

Step back in time, take a deep breath, and relax by spending time in our unique community.
